What types of information do chemist use to arrange the periodic table?

Elements on the periodic table are arranged by how much its atomic number increases. The column that is vertical is called the groups while the horizontal row is called the periods. Each element in the groups such as Alkali Metal, Transition Metals, or Noble Gases has a valence electron which is the similarity in the number and type of chemical bond the element form. The chemical and physical properties change every time you move either across or down on the periodic table. Metals on the periodic table usually lose their electrons and form positive ions. The Non-metals usually gain electrons so they can form negative ion. Non-metals also bond to each other by making covalent bonds.

The Metals consist of the Alkali metals, Alkaline earth metals, Lanthanoids, Actinides, Transition metals, and Post transition metals. Alkali Metals are extremely reactive elements. They combine with nonmetals and form salts. They can always make compounds with oxygen that will dissolve to make solutions. Alkaline Earth Metals are also reactive elements. They make ionic compounds. Most of their compounds filled with oxygen are found in the ground. Transition Metals aren't that reactive. The elements in this group varies in many physical and chemical properties. They can create many positive ions. Iron can form more than one compound with a nonmetal. Lanthanoids are a series of transition elements between lanthanum and hafnium. They are usually found in nature and they have some of the same chemicals. Actinides are also transition elements, but they are between actinium and rutherfordium. They form unsolvable compounds. Noble Gases are elements that have limited chemical reactivity. They have a complete electron shell.

The Nonmetals consist of the halogens, other metals, and other nonmetals. Halogens are reactive elements,. They form from halides. Halogens have important effects on everyday life. Other metals are called post transition metals. Earth's most ample metal on earth. Industries also used metals such as lead, tin, and mercury. Other nonmetals have chemically reactive element. They are important for life on a planet. Examples would be oxygen which could be used for animals and nitrogen which is used to make light bulbs.
